Bowling is fun

Sunday January 23,2005
Orofinio Idaho, The day started with a bright sunny day and expectations of an outstanding day of bowling in the city bowling tournament Picked up Tom and Stan at Orchard Lanes in Lewiston for the forty-minute drive to Orofino. Being new to the area this was my first trip to Riverside Lanes an older ten lane bowling center with new scoring computers and monitor. The ball return is the old style and you can see the ball as it returns to the rack. On my first ball, I was on my third step with the ball starting down as a returning ball pop up the return. Big time pull! Oh! I should have known that this would be an interesting day.

The folks that run Riverside Lanes worked hard to help us have a good time, but even with all there help it was a long day for me. That is more on me than any one else, I had put higher site than I was able to perform. This last week I had purchased a new Storm Triple X bowling ball and was running strikes like never before, so my sites of a good day are high, and when all was done I ended the day over my current average but below last years average.

Bowling is humbling when you make the wrong moves and your spare marks are not the same as your home center. I think the biggest disappointment is that you feel that you are letting down your teammates if you do not bowl above your average. The day was like two strikes and next shoot a five pin. I miss it on the left side; the ball moved more then 17 boards. Smile! Smile! I was in shock but not surprised.

I started bowling leagues the year before I retired and that is about seven years ago, so I?m enjoying all the new things that happen at tournaments, plus all the new people you get to meet.
Elmer was the bowler that followed me in the last set. I tried a new line and had the best strike I had all day. He followed my lead and ran seven in a row, I had three, but things change Elmer opened 8th strike 9th open 10th for 232, me strike, strike 9 in the 10th for 199.

All and all this was a fun day. dougo
