It's about time I posted

The end of golf season is about here and bowling has started, we did bowl this summer with our son Tom. Tom retired from the Navy after twenty years, moved home and is working for a sign company in Lewiston. Most of the year we have been in the valley but made a trip to Coeur d Alene Id. for the state bowling tournament. It has been a hot summer so it was not fun being out and about in the hot part of the day, but we golfed in the cool part of the day.

I'm still around

Hi to all that stop by, summer is here and we are into golf, have played more than 30 rounds to date. Had a lesson and I'm hitting the ball well. Virginia has been playing a round or two each week and enjoying her new Callaway clubs.
We went to Reno for the National Bowling Tournament at the end of May. It was fun but we did not have good games.
With the price of gas we will only take short trips this summer. It will give us time to work on the yard.
Its time to go hit the ball around, have a good summer. dougo

Frist 700

I have been Bowling in the City Tournament the past two weeks, had some good & bad scores but in the last series my best score to date. I had been bowling good all day had a 601 first three games, and 662 my second three games. In the Team event I shoot 236,254, 223 = 713
that was the best I have ever Bowled for nine games and my high three game series.

As a team we bowled 2907 w/Handicap and are in first place by almost 100 pins.
This has been a fun week, I have been working on the Tournament committee for three months
and the tournament has run smooth as tournaments go, and to bowl my best is a vary big plus.

Have a good year Dougo

Snake River Adventure Boat Trip

We departed Lewiston Idaho's Hells Canyon marina, south down the Snake River at 8:00 a.m. The day was clear and would rise into the high 90's and may have topped 100 in the upper canyon. The first thing that caught my wife's attention was that the seats were wet, and I know we would be wet before the day was over. We passed by Asotin Wa. and the Boaters camped on the sandy banks were starting move about and enjoy a great day on the river.
Just about the time we started to get a little warm, we came on a stretch of white water, and the captain showed us why the seats were wet. The first wave came over the right side, right into my lap, and with a quick turn the second wave came over the left side, so we all got a little wet. To be fair we were told to put our cameras into something waterproof and it was a class 4 rapid and we were down river 50 miles.

The photo is of a tame stretch of white water, that we could have are cameras out, in the big rapids the dips where over six foot high.

The trip is over 200 miles and takes over ten hours with stops for food and to see some of the sites, or just play , like taking a 25 ft. jump from the rocks in to the river. Below are photos from alone the trip.

Camping on the river.

Mountain Goats

More Mountain Goats by the river. The goats were about ten miles apart.

More white water

End of the road. Hells Canyon Dam. You can drive into the dam from the south.

Parking lot at the dam

Going home looking north back down the Snake River

The wet part of the trip was on the way back down river. This was a very fun day and the history of the river is never ending. dougo

Bowling Strikes

I put this photo together last night and like the way it came out. It's fun playing with photos and changing the way they look. I do like picture in picture appearance, with different textures.

I Love to Bowl

This was the best week I have ever had as a bowler. We now bowl three leagues a week and on Tue. I bowled 235,214,175 =624 on Wed. 243,199,167=609 and Thur. 186,201,235=622 to give you a idea how good it was for me, my average for the year is 176 and I only have three other 600's. For many of the good bowlers this no big deal but for me I was on fire. dougo

USS Ashtabula AO-51

I came aboard the USS Ashtabula AO-51
in Todd shipyards San Pedro Ca. in early 1961. I was just out of bootcamp, 18 years old and was not sure what I had got myself into, the ship was filthy from all the refitting work. I remember it was late at night around 10:oo pm and you had to step over air hose and other thing on the deck, just to get aboard.
Welcome to the Navy dougo

This is funny

One Dark and Stormy Night

They were together in the House.

It was just the two of them. It was a cold, dark, stormy night. The storm had come quickly and each time the thunder boomed he watched her jump.

She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance...and wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her from the storm. She wanted that, more than anything. Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out... she screamed...he raced to the sofa where she was cowering.

He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms. He knew this was a forbidden union and expected her to pull back.

He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead, clung wildly to him.

The storm raged on and there came a moment when each knew that they had to be together.

They knew it was wrong...

Their families would never understand. So consumed were they in their passion that they heard no opening of doors...just the faint click of a camera......
